So you have a website that you’re proud of, you’ve been creating great content for a little while and you’re ready to look into making money off your passion! Figuring out how to monetize a website can be confusing and difficult, after all, there seems to be so many different things that you can do to generate income. Here are some of the best and easiest ways to start making money through your site.
Start Off Simply
You may be revving to get started – already looking into e-books, sponsored posts, and SEO. That’s great, but don’t ignore the small things! There are so many free and easy ways to generate more traffic and income to your website.
Don’t be afraid to ask for donations. Chances are, you have many readers who love your content and would also love to support you, AKA the content creator. You can easily set up a PayPal account and embed a donate button to your website. It probably won’t make you big bucks, but every little counts, and it’s rewarding to see that people enjoy your site so much that they’re willing to donate to it.
Another great and simple way to generate hits to your website (and in turn generate more income) is by creating an email list. There are lots of great email marketing websites to choose from, and many of them are free if you have under a certain amount of subscribers. Give your readers something that they’ll want to click on, such as compelling blog posts or coupons in order to get people clicking over to your page!
Raise the Bar
Now it’s time to get into the slightly more time-consuming side of monetization. These suggestions may require a bit more effort, but they’ll also have more payoff. Once your donation page and email list are set up, start working on your SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. SEO is what helps your site rise to the top on different search engines including Google. SEO is a complicated system and there are many ways you could use it to your advantage, but the easiest and most simple ways are by writing helpful and shareable content with lots of keywords that pertain to your website. This will get people clicking over and sharing links for your site, and over time it will help you rise in the search engine rankings.
Your website is most likely about a topic that interests you, and that you’re great at. Why not use that knowledge to teach others? You can record online sessions and charge a fee to people to gain access to them, just make sure the premium content is actually premium so that you aren’t alienating your consumers. You could even teach one-on-one classes by setting up webinars with people and talking to them “face to face”. If you do this, make sure your SIP tech is working correctly with this VOIP test tool, so that you don’t run into any technical issues while you’re chatting with someone. After all, time is money!
Work with Others
Once you’ve put in the work and gained lots of followers, you may be in a position to make money by working with brands that you love. This may be daunting, but it’s actually a great chance to work with brands who help create some of your favorite products! Reach out to your favorite brands, share with them how many readers that you have, and/or how successful your social media sites are, and depending on your reach they might possibly be willing to sponsor a post for you. This means that they will pay you to mention or feature one of their products, in order to advertise to your large reader base.
If that seems a bit overwhelming to you, or if that goal is currently just out of reach, you could always make good use of affiliate links! Many big-name online stores have affiliate programs, and it’s easy to become a part of them. Once you sign up to become part of their program, all you’ll have to do is post links in your blog posts to different products that you love, and you’ll make a small share of money from the people who buy that product through your website.
Monetizing a website is hard work, but if you keep up with it you’ll be watching that work pay off soon enough. These tips will help you get where you want to be, and start making money doing what you love!
