Recently I’ve been working very hard to grow my brand and grow brand visibility. You would think that in these days of social media with access to: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Blab, Periscope, and LinkedIn that it would be easy to get in front of people. Well, not always.
I’ve become very excited about using live streaming to connect with people that already support my endeavors, connect with my tribe, and meet new people. There are several platforms that you can use to do this so I dipped my toe into the mix to begin expanding my brand thinking that I would begin rocking Scopes, sharing Blabs, or jumping onto Facebook live. Nope. Wasn’t going to happen.
Social Media Is Not My Bae
Or, I should say-social media has not been my bae recently. Let me tell you what happened instead. I scheduled a Blab that I was excited to share and let my friends and followers know when it was happening. I had “Blabbed” before so I though all would be fine. I dialed in…5 times and wasn’t able to start the Blab. It was frustrating, infuriating, and really aggravating. Especially because I had been so reticent (for so long) to use live streaming before. why wouldn’t it work for me?!
Instead, I decided to try my hand at Periscope. Um, and that didn’t work either. Every time I would try to flip the screen the freaking scope would shut down. And, don’t get me started on Facebook Live. Friends of mine have been popping up in my Facebook feed life streaming in awesome ways. Each day I would anxiously check my cell phone to see if my Facebook app had the streaming icon on it. Nope. Still not there.
I will be honest and say that I was feeling really frustrated. How was I supposed to grow my tribe when all of the tools available to me just weren’t working?
And, to make it worse-my podcast had stopped publishing to iTunes. But, I’m a woman on a mission and I just wasn’t willing to let this go. F*ck that!
Plan C
Yep, I had yet another plan. And I want to send a special “Shout Out” to LaTisha Styles who truly got me to thinking about my plan C. She asked if I had considered using Google Hangouts and then directed me to a page where this has been done really well.
I decided to start walking. For some reason my best ideas happen when I’m: walking or asleep. As I walked around town I thought about what my top 3 business related goals are for the month of April. I made decisions on what to stop dealing with and what I created an action plan. As I walked I realized that the solution to my tribe building woes I already had available to me.
Just use what I have.
It seems so straightforward. I’ve even told other people to do the same thing. I took an inventory of tools that I have available to me that actually work and would allow me to build consistency and continuity.
I already have a plugin that allows me to host webinars, it even has a countdown feature. In reality all I wanted to do was show up on video so that people could connect with me. Why not on my website?
April Visibility Challenge
There are several people who have inspired me to do this: LaTisha Styles, Amanda Abella, and Sandy Smith to name a few. I just had to figure out a plan, what I would talk about, and what freaking platform I would use. I decided to use mine!

good luck Michelle! It’s amazing how many tools there are out there to connect with people, but yes, it would be nice if they worked!
